When I was a teacher and coach, I would often say to my students, “Just do what you are supposed to do.” This was the sure way to success as a student, and arguably would lead to success in life. But how do we, as young people or as older people, know exactly what it is that we are supposed to do?
Of course the answer is rather simple, and it is right there in front of us – all we have to do is follow the way of the Lord. Our souls yearn for direction. We search for meaning and we listen and watch to find the way to righteousness. The path of the righteous is level. It may not be easy, but it is smooth and gives us our best chance at success. Success in the pursuit of happiness. Success in our relationships. Success in our careers. Success in being a role model for our children. The Lord’s hand is indeed lifted high, for all to see. His grace is there to nourish and nurture us. It is there for all of us, including the wicked. All we have to do is listen and follow his path.
Prayer: As we wait for you Lord, this Advent season, let us be mindful of your ways and open to the power of your glory. Let us live in your grace and give us the courage to spread your word. We ask you this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
